Description:
This is Smitty, a handsome Chinese Crested hairless dog, about 4 years old, and approximately 16 pounds. He is pretty much a "true hairless," although he does have wonderful furnishings on his ears and tail. He has a bit of fuzzy fur on his back-side that kind of acts like velcro.
Smitty is energetic, enthusiastic, and very loving and sweet with his person. He is a VERY happy dog that loves to run and play, and is affectionate. He enjoys snuggling up right against you for a relaxing nap. With his long legs, he's an excellent hugger!
Smitty likes to play fetch in the yard with a ball, and runs so happily when outside. He also enjoys a good squeaky toy in the house and will enthusiastically return it to you (most of the time). He does quite well on leash walks. Although he takes a block or two to settle down, he has learned to potty on a leash and enjoys "tagging" the neighborhood. He does well on his house manners with frequent trips outside. He has shown no destructive behaviors like chewing.
Smitty enjoys meeting new people and dogs out in the world and is quite friendly, but with some dogs, he can be bossy and territorial in the house. After observing him in foster care, we feel he'd be at his best in a home where he could be an only dog. He is being fostered along with cats, and there are no issues there. The cats do mostly keep to themselves, but interactions have been neutral.
We'd love to see Smitty adopted to a home where his owners are willing to give him plenty of attention and exercise, and keep his positive training going. He does have a strong personality, and can sometimes be stubborn, but most of his behavioral challenges come from a place of insecurity. He wants a strong leader to take charge, so he can just be a dog. We also think that, without another dog in the home, many of these behavioral challenges would disappear.
Smitty has energy, but not too much. He would love to be the kind of dog that goes places with you-- like trips downtown, walks in the park, or running errands, or even a hike in the woods! And then he'll come crash out, hopefully cuddled up with you, and won't move for hours.
Smitty is being fostered in Greenville, SC, and applications are welcome at any time. He has recently had a dental cleaning and his teeth are gorgeous. He is also up-to-date on shots, neutered, and microchipped. Inquiries are welcome at [email protected].
