Many times in the rescue world dogs come into foster care who have had very little or no veterinary care their entire lives. Often times, they also lack socialization. They have either been owned by neglectful owners, come from puppy mills or have been strays on the street for an extended period of time. Shelters don't always have the funds available to treat these medical conditions and these dogs can often be the ones to be deemed as "unadoptable" and destroyed. This is often when we get a call from a concerned shelter worker.
When Bald Is Beautiful makes a decision to rescue a dog whose history is unknown to us we are "rolling the dice" that the dog will have no serious medical conditions. Other times, we take a dog knowing that he will require treatment, perhaps for a broken bone, or heart worms, or a skin infection. Any life threatening health conditions must be treated before we can find their forever homes.
In other cases, once a dog has been with us in foster care for some time, we may sadly determine the dog cannot be placed into an adoptive home for some reason. This is when we ask for Donations to sponsor a dog - donations that are used specifically for the treatment and medical care of that particular dog.
The following dogs need your help. Won't you please consider being a Sponsor Angel for one of these sweet dogs? Visit our shopping site for a quick and easy way to donate or click on the link below. We thank you and our dogs thank you!
TAPLEY came to us after he was found wandering around a Florida neighborhood with a broken leg. Our first consultation with a vet suggested his leg was healing nicely with a cast, but unfortunately, after eight weeks, it was determined that surgery would be necessary. Tapley has been such a trooper and despite his pain, has been loving and playful. A happy boy! His surgery was successfully performed on Sept. 27 and we eagerly await the day we can give him the green light to be adopted into a forever home. Until then, we are in need of donations to offset the cost of his surgery.
TINY TIMMY is exactly that! He is an itty bitty chinese crested who is available for sponsorship until his leg is healed and he is cleared by his team of vets & specialists. Timmy has suffered two bad breaks in his hind leg and is currently being treated for them. He is also being evaluated for underlying issues that could be causing him to be so frail. If you are interested in adopting Timmy, please continue to follow his story!

In Memory of Leona, a very special girl who was with us for far too short a stay.
Leona was a sweet, happy, beautiful dog. She was found as a stray by a very kind family who asked Bald is Beautiful to find her a home. We fell in love immediately with her outgoing personality and ability to win over every person she met. She was with us just a week when she suddenly became paralyzed due to a ruptured disk. Despite the best efforts of wonderful doctors, Leona's condition deteriorated and we had to let her go. It was devastating.
And yet, when faced with the difficult decision of determining treatment, we did not have to hesitate in moving forward with expensive surgery. We are fortunate to have been in the position where we were able to afford treatment. In large part, this is due to the hundreds of people who have supported us over the past two years, by shopping in our store, donating money and participating in fundraisers. Although it broke our hearts that the outcome wasn't what we'd hoped for, we are so grateful we were able to do everything possible to try to save Leona.
In Leona's memory, we created theSunshine Fund. (You only have to look at her shining face to know where we came up with that name!) These funds will be kept on hand in order to cover the costs of emergency care should an urgent situation like this arise for another dog in the future. Our goal... ensuring when the unexpected happens, we are left with every option to provide our dogs the best possible care.
Sweet Leona represented so many things. At the time, since opening our doors in 2010, we had already rescued over 100 dogs. This was the first time we had to help one cross the Rainbow Bridge. Several have passed on since then, but even more are thriving thanks to the Sunshine Fund. This reserve enables us to provide them with vet care, surgery and whatever rehabilitation they needed.

MAC
In a very round-about way, Mac found his way to us along with his friend, Grilled Cheez. When Bald is Beautiful agreed to take a group of five cresties, we were a little surprised to find two senior chihuahuas along for the ride. When they arrived, it was clear these two dogs had spent their entire lives crated. They each had restricted mobility and needed physical therapy. Many of our "fans" got to know and love Grilled Cheez as she blossomed into quite a celebrity. She made tremendous progress and has been adopted into a loving forever home.
Mac has not been so fortunate. Although physical therapy helped him regain mobility in his legs, he has been unable to make progress emotionally. 10+ years in a crate, with limited human interaction... Mac is generally not interested in people. He still ignores them and, although he enjoys the company of other dogs, wants little to do with his human caretakers. For this reason, we fear that Mac will not be adopted.
In cases like this, we will find a foster home that will take him in with the understanding that their responsibility is not to find Mac a forever home, but to care for him for the duration of his life. He will spend his golden years receiving the best food, the best vet care, and the best life possible. If, at any point, an adopter steps up to give Mac a permanent home, we would welcome that.
Donations earmarked for Mac will provide him with food and vet care. Our goal is to limit the financial burden on the foster home who has agreed to take care of this special guy for now. Your donation is appreciated, so much. Thank you.
