Description:
Dallas is one of the ten dogs taken in by Bald is Beautiful at the beginning of June, 2011. This spicy boy is the smallest of the group. He has these tiny little legs, and tiny little paws, but a huge personality. He's about 5-6 pounds and we think he's around 5 years old. Still plenty of energy but also enjoys his relaxation time. He is doing great in foster care and we are now taking applications for adoption.
Dallas is a cautious yet curious dog, that has learned to trust his foster mom and benefits from a consistent daily routine. He loves playing, both with Hurley, his foster brother, and with toys of all shapes and sizes. He's food motivated and, although he has a good appetite, doesn't seem to put any weight on that tiny frame no matter what he eats. (I know, ladies...) That's a good thing because he's so tiny, he should not gain weight!
Dallas will need to go to a home with a fenced in yard and at least one other balanced dog. He will benefit from having a leader in his pack, as he looks to the pack for direction. He does fine when left home alone, does not damage or chew.
Dallas has been a little slow to trust, but he is clearly making forward progress along the way. He now seeks out his foster mom for attention... likes both the head-scratch and belly-rub variety... and he is much more comfortable being held. I still have to "corner" him to pick him up, but he doesn't fight it.
We've made huge progress on the leash walk front. After a rough start, Dallas now does the excited dance and wiggle when the leash comes out... he loves going for walks. This has also helped our relationship tremendously, as walks help build my leadership and his trust.
He has done very well pottying on a routine schedule in the yard. He has had a few accidents in the house, but it's because he's very reliant on his person to stick to a routine. During the day, he's gated in the laundry room and has never had an accident while his foster mom's at work.
Dallas' new home will need to understand that he's a work in progress, but all indications are he will attach to his new family within a couple of weeks, and find his place. And this cutie will be worth a little extra patience... you'll get back so much!
